The Freedom People's Congress has appointed Member of Parliament Dullas Alahapperuma to spearhead discussions with various political parties, including the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, aimed at forging a common opposition political alliance in preparation for the upcoming elections.

According to informed political sources, this decision was prompted by separate discussions between some members of the Freedom People's Congress and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, which were seen as a potential hindrance to the unity of the group.

To ensure a cohesive approach, it was resolved that MP Dullas Alahapperuma, who leads the Freedom People's Congress, would take charge of these crucial negotiations.

The primary objective of this emerging alliance is to unite opposition forces and collectively contest either the forthcoming presidential election or the general election. These preliminary discussions are viewed as the first step towards achieving this overarching goal.
