The Meteorology Department has issued a weather update forecasting showers and thundershowers in several regions of Sri Lanka, excluding the Northern, Northcentral, and Eastern provinces. These weather conditions are expected to occur in the afternoon, commencing after 2:00 p.m.
In particular, the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, are likely to experience fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 mm. For residents in these areas, it is advisable to be prepared for potentially heavy rainfall and its associated impact.
Misty conditions are also expected in certain areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces during the morning hours. These conditions may lead to reduced visibility in those regions.
The past 24 hours saw Wellawaya, located in the Monaragala District, recording the highest amount of rainfall, with a total of 125.5mm.
The Meteorology Department has urged the general public to take necessary precautions to minimize any damage that may result from localized strong winds and lightning during the occurrence of thundershowers.
