In a move towards harnessing renewable energy sources, the Sri Lankan Cabinet has given the green light to the Ministry of Power and Energy's proposal to develop 200 MW of floating solar power on the Samanalawewa reservoir.
The approval marks a vital step in expanding the country's renewable energy capacity, utilizing the vast water bodies within Sri Lanka. The project aims to promote sustainability and reduce the nation's reliance on traditional power sources.
Under this initiative, Expressions of Interest (EOIs) will be invited for two separate projects, each with a capacity of 100 MW. These projects are open to both international and local developers interested in investing in floating solar power plants.
The Samanalawewa reservoir project is poised to contribute significantly to Sri Lanka's renewable energy goals and its commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
