Sri Lanka Police Initiates Investigation into Disturbing Child Exploitation Videos with Explicit Sexual Scenes on Social Media

The Police Children and Women's Bureau has launched a comprehensive investigation following a complaint lodged by an international organization focused on children's welfare. The Bureau reported that some Sri Lankans are allegedly involved in selling videos containing explicit sexual scenes involving young children through social media platforms.

The Women's Bureau brought the matter to the attention of Colombo Additional Magistrate Keminda Perera and urged the immediate initiation of an investigation into several Sri Lankans who are reportedly distributing nude photos and videos of small children by participating in a WhatsApp group.

The complaint reveals the distressing nature of the allegations, indicating that nude photos and videos featuring male and female children aged between two to seven years are being traded within these groups. These explicit materials reportedly include sexual activities and obscene scenes and are being sold for sums ranging from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 3000.

The Children's and Women's Bureau has alerted the court to the gravity of the situation and urged prompt action. They have also requested the court to issue the necessary orders to determine whether Sri Lankan children are depicted in these disturbing videos and to identify the suspects involved.

Responding to the urgent request, the court has issued orders for the investigations to proceed immediately and instructed the bureau to report their findings without delay.
