Court of Appeal Reverses Government Directive, Recalls Retired Nursing Service Staff

The Court of Appeal has quashed a government order to compel the retirement of personnel above 60 years of age in four grades of the Sri Lankan Nursing Services.

The court has further mandated the recall of individuals who had already been sent into retirement based on this directive.

This decision by the Court of Appeal comes as a response to concerns raised regarding the government's directive to prematurely retire nursing service staff once they reach the age of 60.

The directive was met with opposition, with many arguing that the healthcare sector is in great need of experienced nursing staff, especially amid ongoing healthcare challenges.

As a result, those who had been retired prematurely are now expected to be recalled, ensuring their continued contributions to the healthcare system.
