In the latest development within the Sri Lankan cricket team, former captain Angelo Mathews is gearing up to rejoin the national squad as a replacement for the injured Matheesha Pathirana, who was forced to withdraw from the ICC World Cup 2023 due to injury. Mathews' inclusion is subject to approval from the International Cricket Council's (ICC) technical committee.
Matheesha Pathirana had sustained a shoulder injury during Sri Lanka's clash against Pakistan, which subsequently rendered him unfit to participate in critical fixtures against Australia and Netherlands. As a result, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) submitted a formal request to the ICC for an injury replacement.
Angelo Mathews, an experienced all-rounder, has been identified as the potential replacement for Pathirana. His formal inclusion into the squad will be contingent on the approval of the ICC's technical committee.
