His continued struggle with the injury has led to a decision by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to request his official removal from the squad. The request was submitted to the International Cricket Council (ICC), and Matheesha Pathirana has now been ruled out of the Sri Lankan squad for the World Cup.
