CEB Restructuring Proposals Set to Reach Cabinet Next Week, Minister Wijesekara Confirms

Sri Lanka's Power and Energy Minister, Kanchana Wijesekara, has announced that comprehensive proposals for the restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be presented to the Cabinet in the coming week. This significant development comes as the CEB remains one of the country's most financially challenged state-owned institutions, grappling with considerable financial losses.

In the wake of recent electricity tariff hikes, which were met with public outcry, the state-owned power supplier found itself under increasing scrutiny. These price adjustments, implemented to address the CEB's financial struggles, had an adverse impact on consumers who voiced concerns about the rising cost of living.

The proposed restructuring is seen as a critical step to address these financial challenges and bring about much-needed improvements to the state of the CEB.
