The affected regions include Akuressa, Deniyaya, Mulatiyana, and Walasmulla, where the possibility of flood situations in low-lying areas along the Nilwala River valley has raised concerns.
Recent weather forecasts have indicated the likelihood of heavy rainfall in these areas, which could lead to flooding in some low-lying regions. The affected divisions include Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Pasgoda, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Matara, and Devinuwara. As a precautionary measure, Zonal Education Directors have been granted the authority to decide on school closures in response to these conditions.
