Complaint Urges Police Investigation into Buddha Statue Removal in Batticaloa, Sparks Intercommunity Tension

Tensions have surged in the Batticaloa Mylathamadu area following the abrupt removal of a recently installed Buddha statue. In response to this alarming incident, Balangoda Kassapa Thero, the organizer of the Shakya Putra National Organization, has submitted an official complaint to the Police Headquarters. The complaint seeks an urgent and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the statue's removal.

The statue was installed in the area by the controversial Buddhist monk Ampitiye Sumana Thera.

The statue's removal has raised concerns and caused unease, particularly among the Buddhist and Hindu communities in the area. Mylathamadu is primarily a Tamil-inhabited region, making this incident all the more significant in terms of communal harmony.

In his complaint, Balangoda Kassapa Thero has called for a comprehensive inquiry to uncover the details of the statue's removal, including those responsible for its dismantling. The incident not only pertains to a physical act but also carries broader implications for community relations in the area.
