In a noteworthy development within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), political sources have revealed that a group of party seniors has proposed that Dayasiri Jayasekara, who was previously removed from the position of General Secretary, be appointed as Senior Vice Chairman.

This recommendation comes in response to former President Maithripala Sirisena's statement that Jayasekara could rejoin the party in a capacity other than the chairmanship, secretaryship, or national organizer roles.
