A passenger ferry service between India's Nagapattinam and Sri Lanka was officially inaugurated on Saturday, marking a noteworthy milestone in diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was present at the inaugural event, emphasized the significance of this endeavor.
"We are embarking on a new chapter in the diplomatic and economic relations between India and Sri Lanka. The launch of a ferry service between Nagapattinam and Kankesanturai is an important milestone in strengthening our relations," Prime Minister Modi stated.
The ferry service aims to bolster connectivity, promote trade, and further cement the enduring bonds between the two neighboring countries. This development comes as a result of the recently adopted vision document for economic partnership between India and Sri Lanka, which was crafted during the visit of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The ticket cost for the journey to Sri Lanka has been set at ₹7,670 per person, which includes ₹6,500 for the fare and an additional 18% GST. The competitive pricing aims to make this mode of travel accessible and attractive for individuals from both nations.
