Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena has issued orders for the Narahenpita Police to promptly apprehend all individuals implicated in an incident where residents of a house in the Narahenpita area reported threats against them and bring them before the court.

The Magistrate's directive came in response to a personal complaint lodged with the court by Malinga Fernando, the Managing Director of Ascent International Private Company. The complaint names ICC Umpire and former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Dharmasena, his wife, and directors of Pintanna Plantation Private Limited as the accused parties.

While a notice to appear before the court was issued to Kumar Dharmasena and 12 other respondents, only the respondents other than Kumar Dharmasena appeared before the court during the previous hearing. It was explained that Kumar Dharmasena was abroad during this period.

The incident in question dates back to August 17 when the residents of a house in Narahenpita reported to the local police that Kumar Dharmasena and a group of others had allegedly entered their residence with firearms, raising concerns about their safety. However, the police response to the initial complaint was met with allegations of negligence.

One month and three days after the initial complaint by the residents, the respondents involved in the incident filed their own complaint with the police on September 19. Notably, the police did not address the complainant party's concerns that had been raised on September 17.

During the court proceedings, President's Counsel Nalinda Indratissa who appeared for the complainant highlighted the police's duty to impartially investigate all complaints and criticized the perceived bias in the handling of the case. The Station Commander of Narahenpita and the Station Commander of the Crime Division acknowledged that their police station had experienced several complaints from both parties, resulting in delays in conducting a formal investigation.

In light of the information presented by all parties, the Magistrate issued orders for the immediate arrest of the suspects involved in the incident and for them to be brought before the court. This development marks a significant step forward in resolving the case and determining the appropriate legal actions to be taken against those accused of threatening the residents of the Narahenpita house.
