Sri Lanka's tourism sector has witnessed impressive growth, defying previous challenges. Thanks to global trends favoring tourism, the country has managed to surpass monthly targets, welcoming one million tourists within a year. Several factors have contributed to this recovery, including enhanced air connectivity, the relaxation of travel restrictions by key source markets, favorable weather conditions, and a series of successful tourism promotion campaigns targeting India, Europe, and China.
This revival in tourism has translated into substantial financial gains for Sri Lanka. By July 2023, the country's earnings from tourism had reached an impressive USD 1 billion, reflecting a remarkable 43% year-on-year increase compared to the previous year.
