Elpitiya Police have thwarted a sinister plot to assassinate a local businessman believed to be closely connected to underworld leader Kosgoda Suji. Two individuals, one an active Army soldier and the other an ex-Army soldier, were apprehended as they arrived on a motorcycle, armed with a 9mm pistol and ten bullets, with apparent intentions to carry out the crime.

The swift action by the Elpitiya Police not only prevented a potential tragedy but also led to the discovery of crucial evidence linked to the assassination attempt. In addition to the firearm, authorities also seized the motorcycle that the suspects had used for their nefarious mission, as well as two counterfeit motorcycle number plates, seemingly prepared to facilitate their escape.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the two suspected Army personnel were acting on a contract issued by an underworld criminal. The motive behind the plot and the involvement of the businessman, closely linked to Kosgoda Suji, are yet to be fully unraveled.

The chilling sequence of events unfolded as the suspects, armed with a loaded pistol, reportedly targeted the businessman's place of business in the Pituwala area of Elpitiya. The police received timely information about the impending attack and swiftly moved to intercept the suspects, apprehending them before any harm could be inflicted.
