Sri Lanka Activates Data Protection Authority as President Appoints Seven-member Personal Data Protection Boar

Sri Lanka has taken a significant step in bolstering data security and privacy by appointing the Personal Data Protection Board, thereby fully activating the Data Protection Authority established under the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022. This move is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing data security, building international trust, and promoting foreign investments in the country.

The newly formed Personal Data Protection Board will be entrusted with the vital responsibility of safeguarding the personal data of individuals and organizations. It aims to not only ensure compliance with data protection regulations but also foster a climate of trust and confidence in the handling of data.

The composition of the Board of Directors, as announced by the President's office, includes a diverse group of experts with the necessary skills and experience to oversee data protection matters effectively. The members of the board are as follows:

  4. Saumya Amarasekara

  5. Shehan Wijethilaka
