Parliament Notifies Attorney General's Department to Pursue Legal Action Against Six Former MPs Over Unpaid Housing and Utility Bills

The administration of the Sri Lankan Parliament has taken a significant step by formally notifying the Attorney General's Department to initiate legal proceedings against six former Members of Parliament (MPs). These ex-MPs have allegedly failed to settle outstanding house rent, electricity bills, and water bills related to their occupancy in the Madivela MP's housing complex.

The six former MPs in question had resided in the Madivela MPs' official housing complex following their defeat in the last parliamentary election. It has come to light that despite repeated notifications and reminders, they have not fulfilled their financial obligations, including the payment of house rent and clearing arrears for electricity and water bills incurred during their stay.

According to reliable parliamentary sources, not only have these ex-MPs neglected to clear their outstanding dues, but they have also accrued fines on top of the original amounts owed. The accumulating debts and the failure to address them have prompted the Parliament administration to take legal action against the six individuals.

The Attorney General's Department is now expected to launch legal proceedings against the former MPs in the coming days.
