Sri Lanka's political arena witnessed an unusual turn of events as Ranjith Madduma Bandara, the General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), extended a peculiar apology to State Minister Diana Gamage following a controversial remark.
Madduma Bandara had previously referred to State Minister Diana Gamage as a "mad dog," a derogatory comment that sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters. Many individuals and groups called for Madduma Bandara to issue an apology for his derogatory language.
However, when Madduma Bandara finally chose to apologize, his words left many stunned. In his purported apology, he stated, "On my way to parliament, I saw some dogs, and there was a mad one among them. I referred to that mad dog. I am sorry if it caused inconvenience to the State Minister!"
This unorthodox apology did not sit well with critics and the public alike. Rather than offering a sincere apology, Madduma Bandara's statement appeared to be another insult, further exacerbating the situation. Given Madduma Bandara's status as the General Secretary of the SJB and a senior parliamentarian, his behavior and choice of words have raised eyebrows and drawn significant backlash.
Critics argue that such behavior is not in line with the standards expected from a senior political figure and has called into question the level of decorum and professionalism within the political sphere.
