The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has secured a court order against the International Sports Coordination Committee appointed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe. The Court of Appeal has issued an order prohibiting the committee from acting in accordance with the gazette notification issued by the Sports Minister, which appointed a 3-member International Sports Coordination Committee in Cricket.
The Court of Appeal's order, which extends until November 10, has been issued by a bench comprising President of the Court of Appeal Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice Chamath Morais. This decision follows a writ petition filed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe had announced the formation of the International Sports Coordination Committee in Cricket on Sunday, with the aim of overseeing, communicating, and coordinating with international and national cricket councils to ensure the development, independence, and transparency of cricket in Sri Lanka.
The committee, as per the gazette issued by the minister, comprised former Sri Lankan cricketer Sidath Wettimuny, former President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Upali Dharmadasa, and Legal Counsel Rakitha Rajapakshe, the son of Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe. Their mandate included advising the Minister of Sports on cricket-related matters.
