Kanaka Herath, the Minister of State for Technology, has announced the introduction of the new Motor Vehicle Revenue License System (eRL 2.0) in Sri Lanka. This innovative system is set to launch on the 7th of this month and will be implemented across all provinces except for the Western Province.
State Minister Herath highlighted the convenience of the new eRL 2.0 system, which allows citizens to obtain motor vehicle revenue licenses from the comfort of their homes. He made these announcements during a news conference held at the Presidential Media Centre under the theme 'Collective Path to a Stable Country.'
During the conference, State Minister Kanaka Herath emphasized the importance of digitizing the entire public service in Sri Lanka to improve efficiency and reduce irregularities. He shared that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed that all government institutions in the country should undergo digitization as outlined in the 2023 budget statement.
As part of this digitization effort, nine pilot projects are underway, involving various government institutions such as Divisional Secretariat Divisions, Pradeshiya Sabha, Municipal Councils, and District Secretariat Offices. These projects aim to streamline and modernize public services.
Starting from the 7th of this month, the introduction of eRL 2.0 will allow citizens to obtain vehicle revenue licenses through an online system. This program is a collaborative effort between the State Ministry of Technology and the Information and Communication Technology Association of Sri Lanka. Initially, it will cover all eight provinces, excluding the Western Province. Plans are also underway to expand this program to encompass all government institutions and enable online payments by March of the following year.
These initiatives align with the broader 'Digicon 2023-2030' program initiated under the guidance of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The program's objective is to enhance efficiency and strengthen public services throughout the country through comprehensive digitization efforts, ushering Sri Lanka into a new era of technological advancement.
