Godahewa's Tweet Sparks Questions Over his Allegiance: Defends Fuel Prices Under Gota While Aligning Himself With SJB

Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, a former key member of the Viyathmaga movement, which fervently campaigned for the presidency of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, has come under scrutiny for defending the fuel prices during the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa presidency while aligning himself with the main opposition party, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

In a tweet that has sparked controversy, Dr. Godahewa addressed the escalating fuel prices during the presidency of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, stating, "Before the Aragalaya, Petrol was sold at 240 a liter, Diesel at 320 a liter, and kerosene at 87 a liter. Today we don't pay our national debts, so there is money to import Fuel, but of course, consumers are paying 52% more for petrol, 10% more for diesel, and 177% more for kerosene."

The tweet has ignited a debate over the alignment of Dr. Godahewa's allegiances, given his history of support for the Rajapaksa administration. His newfound association with the SJB, which stands in opposition to the government led by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, has raised questions about his political motivations and priorities.

Dr. Godahewa's pivot from a prominent figure in a movement that played a crucial role in President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's election to a member of the SJB has been notable. His recent participation in an SJB delegation that met with the visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation has further fueled speculation about his shifting political allegiances.
