In response to the recent series of flight delays plaguing SriLankan Airlines, an emergency meeting has been called by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation. The meeting, scheduled for today (02), will be chaired by the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation, Nimal Siripala De Silva, as efforts intensify to tackle the growing concerns surrounding the airline's punctuality.

The crucial discussion is set to commence at 09:30 a.m. at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation. Notably, all top-level management officials and representatives from the various trade unions associated with SriLankan Airlines have been invited to participate in the meeting. Sources indicate that these officials will be closely questioned regarding the recurring flight delays that have sparked frustration among passengers.

The urgency of this meeting has been underscored by recent incidents, including the cancellation of two SriLankan Airlines flights on Sunday (01). These cancellations, attributed to technical issues, left hundreds of passengers inconvenienced.

One of the affected flights, UL 181, was destined for Kathmandu, Nepal, and was scheduled to depart at 08:20 a.m. on Sunday with approximately 200 passengers on board. However, the flight faced significant delays, leading to mounting frustration among passengers. Ultimately, it was revealed that the delay was due to a technical failure.

In a parallel incident, a flight bound for Mumbai, India, also fell victim to a technical issue, resulting in its cancellation this morning.

The continuous flight delays have prompted concerns among passengers and have highlighted the need for swift and effective solutions to address these issues. The emergency meeting today aims to delve into the root causes of these delays, assess the airline's operational procedures, and strategize ways to prevent similar incidents in the future.
