Sri Lanka's celebrated badminton athlete, Niluka Karunaratne, who has garnered international acclaim for his prowess on the badminton court, officially declared his retirement from international competitive badminton. This announcement came as he represented Sri Lanka at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters.

Karunaratne, often regarded as Sri Lanka's most accomplished shuttle star, chose the grand stage of the IOC headquarters to make this heartfelt announcement, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned over a decade.

With numerous national and international accolades to his name, including multiple South Asian Games medals and participation in multiple Olympic Games, Karunaratne has been a prominent figure in Sri Lankan sports. His dedication, commitment, and exceptional skills on the badminton court have earned him respect and admiration not only within Sri Lanka but also on the global stage.

Hailing from a well-known sports family in Colombo, Niluka Karunaratne is also the brother of Sri Lankan national cricketer Chamika Karunaratne.
