President Ranil Wickremesinghe has held a decisive meeting with Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, who had recently survived a vote of no confidence in Parliament.
The outcome of this meeting is expected to result in the imminent departure of Minister Rambukwella from his role as the head of the Health Ministry.
during the meeting, President Wickremesinghe had urged Minister Rambukwella to step down from his position as Health Minister, setting in motion a transition in leadership within the crucial ministry, informed sources said.
In response to the President's request, Minister Rambukwella made an appeal for the opportunity to retain his role as Health Minister in Parliament for a few additional sessions. However, it now appears that Minister Rambukwella is preparing to send in his letter of resignation, dated September 30, marking the end of his tenure as the head of the Health Ministry.
The mantle of Health Minister is expected to be passed to Ramesh Pathirana, a physician who currently serves as the Minister of Plantation Industries.
