Minister of Sports, Roshan Ranasinghe, has reiterated the pressing need to investigate the allocation and utilization of funds received by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in the midst of an enduring dispute between the sports ministry and the cricket governing body.
The ongoing disagreement between Minister Ranasinghe and SLC has cast a shadow over the administration of cricket in Sri Lanka, with the sports ministry raising concerns about various issues related to the management and finances of the cricket board.
Minister Ranasinghe has emphatically stressed the importance of ascertaining whether the substantial funds provided to SLC are effectively utilized in nurturing and developing talented cricket players in the country. The issue of funding allocation has become a focal point in the protracted standoff between the sports ministry and the cricket board.
Despite the internal strife, the Sports Minister expressed his unwavering belief in the potential of the current national cricket team. He asserted that the team possesses the talent and capabilities required to emerge victorious against any cricketing nation on the international stage.
Minister Ranasinghe harkened back to a golden era in Sri Lankan cricket, particularly during the tenure of former captain Arjuna Ranatunga, when the Sri Lankan cricket team enjoyed a period of dominance, including impressive victories against strong opponents like India. Ranatuga is currently an advisor to the Sports Minister.
