A television journalist has been apprehended by the police concerning a shooting incident that occurred in the Talduwa area of Avissawella on September 20.
Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the journalist had been clandestinely providing information to a Dubai-based criminal named Manna Ramesh, who was allegedly the mastermind behind the shooting incident.
The arrest of the journalist was carried out by the police special task force in the Meegoda area last night. During the investigation, it was discovered that the journalist had made 18 phone calls to Mr. Manna Ramesh in recent days. Furthermore, evidence indicated that Manna Ramesh had deposited money into the journalist's bank account on multiple occasions.
The arrested journalist, along with three individuals who had reportedly provided accommodation and transportation to the shooter in Avissawella, were presented before the Avissawella Magistrate Court today. The magistrate granted permission for the journalist to be detained and interrogated for 72 hours, while the other three suspects were permitted to be held and questioned for 7 days.
