The Homagama Police, prompted by complaints of alleged indecent behavior involving minors within a private park, conducted a raid on the premises. Reports indicate that concerns had been raised regarding school-aged children and minors engaging in inappropriate activities within small rooms located on the park's grounds.
Local parents and religious leaders expressed their concerns to the police, urging them to take action. Subsequently, the Homagama Police sought a search warrant from the Homagama Magistrate's Court to investigate the matter.
On Sunday (Sep 24), the police executed the search warrant and conducted a thorough search of the park. During the operation, approximately 24 young couples, allegedly engaged in indecent activities within the park's rooms, were taken into police custody.
Following the raid, the police provided guidance to the individuals involved and released the female minors to their respective guardians. Investigations revealed that a significant number of the young couples had initially claimed to be attending tuition classes before arriving at the park.
Additionally, reports suggest that tensions flared during the raid as the park's owner confronted the police officers. Meanwhile, the police's actions in this matter have sparked significant criticism on social media, with many expressing concerns about the invasion of people's privacy.
