Police have detained six individuals on charges of assaulting a group of police officers at Mount Lavinia Beach.

According to Police Headquarters, the incident unfolded when a team of police officers responded to a report of intoxicated individuals swimming in a hazardous section of the beach. Upon arrival, the officers issued a warning to the group.

However, the situation escalated when the group responded aggressively. The suspects allegedly launched an attack on the officers who were attempting to restore order.

As a result of the altercation, two police officers required medical attention and were subsequently admitted to Kalubowila Teaching Hospital.

The arrested suspects, aged between 16 and 30, now face legal repercussions in connection with this incident, as per police reports.
