In a significant development strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Sri Lanka, a crucial contract for the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of a signalling system for Sri Lankan Railways, spanning from Maho to Anuradhapura, has been signed. The agreement, valued at USD 14.90 million, is part of India's ongoing commitment to enhance rail infrastructure in Sri Lanka and promote connectivity.
The contract signing ceremony took place in the presence of key dignitaries, including Sri Lanka's High Commissioner, Minister Bandula Gunawardane, Eastern Province Governor Senthil Thondaman, and Minister Siripala Gamalath, among other senior officials. The project marks a significant milestone in the longstanding collaboration between the two nations.
The project, which aims to modernize and improve the signalling system along the rail corridor from Maho to Anuradhapura, is being executed under an Indian credit line of USD 318 million. This substantial investment underscores India's unwavering commitment to supporting Sri Lanka's railway infrastructure development.
