During a recent session of the Ways and Procedures Committee in Parliament, it was brought to light that seven companies have been delaying their payment of excise duty, with two of these companies owing more than a staggering 1.5 billion rupees.

The committee disclosed that they have yet to receive any information concerning the two companies responsible for this substantial debt, and these companies have also failed to submit any payment plans, which the other firms have adhered to.

The two companies in question have been identified as Globe Blender and Northwest Spirit Store.

Officials from the Excise Department presented these findings during the meeting, chaired by Member of Parliament Patali Champika Ranawaka, held at the Parliament premises.

The committee emphasized that these companies must settle their outstanding taxes before October 15th. Failure to do so could result in the suspension of their licenses by October 30th.
