It has been confirmed through multiple media outlets, citing senior Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sources, that Dasun Shanaka will continue to captain the Sri Lankan cricket team for the upcoming World Cup in 2023.

Speculations had arisen regarding Shanaka's captaincy due to concerns over his performance as a batsman, despite maintaining a satisfactory record as captain.
