The Fort Magistrates Court has issued a restraining order, effectively prohibiting the holding of "Thileepan" commemoration events in multiple areas, including Maradana and Fort. This decision comes as a response to growing concerns regarding the safety and potential confrontations surrounding these events.
The move follows alarm among activists and the public, triggered by a circulating message from September 18th, which openly called on individuals to gather at CSR, Colombo, at 3 pm on September 19th. The message implied an intention to confront and potentially harm individuals attending the Thileepan remembrance event, organized by the Christian Solidarity Movement (CSM).
In light of these concerns, the police sought legal intervention, and the Fort Magistrates Court granted the order to ensure the safety and security of all individuals involved.
