In a disturbing incident that unfolded in the Kappalthurai area of the Trincomalee district, a group of assailants launched a violent attack on a commemorative vehicle bearing the image of Thileepan, severely damaging the vehicle. Shockingly, the attack occurred in the presence of law enforcement officers.

The commemorative vehicle, part of a journey from Poththuvil in the Eastern Province to Nallur, Jaffna, carried the image of Thileepan and was organized by the Tamil National People's Front. Thileepan is a figure of significance in Tamil history, and the commemoration aimed to honor his memory.

However, the event took a distressing turn when the vehicle was assaulted with stones and batons by a group of individuals. Commemoration organizers and Member of Parliament S. Kajendran, who were traveling in the vehicle, were also subjected to the attack.
