In a significant development within the political landscape of Sri Lanka, prominent businessman Dilith Jayaweera has been appointed as the Leader of the Mawbima Janatha Party.

This transition of leadership marks a noteworthy shift within the party, previously led by former MP Hemakumara Nanayakkara, who now assumes the role of Senior Leader.

Both Nanayakkara and Jayaweera hail from the district of Galle. 

Dilith Jayaweera's elevation to the helm of the Mawbima Janatha Party has been met with keen interest and speculation, given his close affiliation with the former president, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
