The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced that it is recruiting 19 Chinese engineers to address the local engineer shortage caused by resignations at the Norachcholai Power Plant. The 6-month contract is valued at LKR 666 million.
The Chinese engineers will be recruited from the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), which is the main contractor for the Norachcholai Power Plant project. The average monthly salary for each engineer is Rs. 58 lakhs.
The CEB said that the decision to recruit Chinese engineers was made after it was unable to find enough local engineers to fill the vacancies at the Norachcholai Power Plant. The plant has been facing a shortage of engineers since last year, when a number of engineers resigned due to low salaries and poor working conditions.
