In a bold move within the political arena, MP Lalith Ellawala has announced plans to initiate a no-confidence motion against Public Security Minister Tiran Alles. The motion comes as a response to growing concerns over the state of the country's security.
Ellawala, emphasizing the urgency of the matter, urged Minister Alles to take immediate measures to combat the rising crime rate and tackle the activities of the criminal underworld.
"If Minister Alles cannot establish a safe and secure environment within the next month, he should step down from his position," Ellawala declared. He further stressed that if the minister refuses to resign despite failing to ensure public safety, he is committed to moving forward with the no-confidence motion.
This development unfolds against the backdrop of another significant parliamentary event. A three-day debate on a separate no-confidence motion against Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, brought forward by the main opposition, is scheduled for next week.
