The tranquil night of the 2nd Kumbul Perehara in Kandy was disrupted by a tense situation when two elephants went on a rampage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The Kumbul Perehara, a revered cultural procession, had drawn thousands of spectators to the historic streets of Kandy. As the festivities were in full swing, two elephants, part of the procession, suddenly broke free from their handlers.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the massive animals charged through the procession route, their presence sending shockwaves through the gathered crowd. The two rogue elephants were later secured and returned to their designated spots.
