Tragedy struck the Dehiwala Zoo on Tuesday (15) when a devastating incident claimed the life of its Chief of Security, Upul Senarath, aged 54. The unfortunate event unfolded as a massive tree, situated just across from the zoo, was uprooted during powerful winds, subsequently colliding with an electricity pole.

In a cruel twist of fate, Upul Senarath, who happened to be passing by at that moment, found himself trapped beneath the weight of the fallen electricity pole.

Swift action was taken to rescue the Chief of Security, but the injuries he sustained were severe. Rushed to Kalubowila Hospital, hopes for his recovery quickly dwindled as medical professionals pronounced him dead.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the unforeseen circumstances that can impact even the most unsuspecting individuals.
