Power Minister Confirms No Electricity Tariff Revision Amidst Uninterrupted Supply Plans and Transmission Line Dispute Resolution

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera took to Twitter to provide updates on the electricity tariff:

  1. There will be no price revision on electricity, contrary to media speculations. The government's policy is to revise electricity prices biannually, in January and July each year.

  2. The CEB has planned for an uninterrupted supply of power across the island throughout the year, with no scheduled power cuts. Currently, all available power plants are operating at full capacity for power generation.

  3. A meeting at the President's office was held recently with the CEB and Irrigation Department to explore options for ensuring continuous power supply without scheduled power cuts. Details on power generation for the next 12 months, water release for agriculture, hydro power capacity, and thermal power options will be shared and discussed with the Cabinet of Ministers today.

  4. The dispute between the landowner and CEB to complete the ADB financed Polpitiya-Hambantota transmission line will be discussed on August 11th, set by the PUCSL. The 150km transmission line connecting the southern province faced a halt for the last 3 months due to a dispute over the government's valuation for a 650-meter stretch of land that the lines pass through. If the dispute is settled, the work can be completed in 4 days. CEB has already compensated 2500 other individuals based on the government's valuation and completed the work in the 150 km stretch over those areas.
