In a new move towards post-war reconciliation, Sri Lanka has taken a crucial step by establishing an Interim Secretariat for the Truth Seeking Mechanism, as announced by the President's Media Division.
The formation of the Interim Secretariat marks a crucial milestone in the country's efforts to address the legacy of its past and pave the way for healing and unity.
With the appointment of the Director General, the Interim Secretariat is now ready to proceed with its mission of facilitating stakeholder consultations and drafting guidelines for the Truth Seeking Mechanism.
The primary goal of this mechanism is to foster an environment where victims and affected communities can come forward to share their experiences during the civil conflict, promoting understanding, empathy, and healing among all parties involved.
However, the formal Truth Seeking Mechanism will fully come into effect only after the necessary law is enacted.
