The Inland Revenue Department has announced a remarkable upswing in tax revenue for the first half of 2023, achieving an unprecedented milestone in the nation's fiscal history.
According to official reports, tax collections have soared to an astounding Rs. 696,946 Million, marking a substantial increase of nearly 93% compared to the same period last year, which stood at Rs. 361,832 Million.
The staggering surge in tax revenue is being celebrated as a significant economic achievement, indicating a robust recovery amidst challenging conditions in the aftermath of Sri Lanka declaring bankruptcy last year.
