US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen Optimistic about Quick Completion of Sri Lanka's Debt Restructuring

In a recent press conference held ahead of the G20 summit in India, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressed optimism regarding the timely completion of Sri Lanka's debt restructuring process.

Yellen's statement comes as a positive development amidst Sri Lanka's ongoing economic challenges.

During the press conference, Secretary Yellen emphasized the importance of promptly resolving Sri Lanka's debt situation, stating that once the restructuring is successfully accomplished, it would pave the way for a comprehensive review of the loan program offered by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Sri Lanka has been facing a severe economic crisis in recent years, grappling with mounting debt obligations and dwindling foreign exchange reserves. As the nation's debt burden became increasingly unsustainable, the need for restructuring became evident, prompting discussions with international stakeholders.
