The Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) of Police Ajith Rohana to challenge his transfer has been scheduled for a hearing by the Supreme Court. The court has decided to support the FR petition on 17 July.
In April, a transfer order was issued by the Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles, affecting the transfers of seven SDIGs, including Lalith Pathinayake, Ajith Rohana, S.C. Medawatte, and W. K. Jayalath. However, SDIG Rohana, in a letter to the Ministry's Secretary, expressed his refusal to comply with the transfer order. He argued that the order was illegal and unconstitutional since it was not issued by the National Police Commission nor approved by them.
Citing Section 56 of the Police Ordinance and referring to a 1974 court case, State's case against Wijesuriya, SDIG Rohana justified his stance and accused Minister Tiran Alles of having ulterior motives behind what he described as a "malicious, arbitrary, and unreasonable" decision. In his letter, SDIG Ajith Rohana alleged that the minister's actions were intended to harass them and protect another SDIG
