Tragic Death of 35-Year-Old Mother Following Eye Surgery Raises Concerns at Colombo National Eye Hospital

The Colombo Eye Hospital has been shaken by the unfortunate passing of a 35-year-old mother of two, H.G., following an eye surgery procedure. Himali Priyadarshini Weerasinghe, a resident of Kosgoda Boralukatiya South, tragically lost her life after undergoing surgery at the Colombo National Eye Hospital.

The deceased had previously received a contact lens insertion at the Colombo National Eye Hospital. However, she experienced an allergic reaction in her eye following the procedure. As a result, she sought further medical attention from the hospital's doctors on the day prior to her untimely death (4).

According to hospital sources, based on the doctors' recommendations, she was admitted to the hospital on the same day for further surgery on the affected eye. The surgical procedure took place yesterday (5), as confirmed by the hospital authorities.

Following the surgery, the patient reportedly lost consciousness, which deeply concerns her grieving relatives. They suspect that the tragic demise may have been caused by the administration of an anesthetic drug used during the surgery, potentially leading to her death.
