Controversial Monk Rajangane Saddharathana Thero Remanded Further for Comments Harming Religious Harmony and Suspicion of Financial Irregularities

Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana Thero, who had been in custody for making comments that were deemed detrimental to religious harmony, has been remanded until July 12. The arrest came after the monk uploaded several videos on YouTube in which he used abusive language against various individuals, including President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Following investigations, it was discovered that a substantial amount of money had been deposited into the monk's bank accounts by overseas donors.

The arrest of Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana Thero took place in June, subsequent to the dissemination of videos containing offensive remarks. The content of these videos, according to the police, raised concerns about potential disturbances to religious harmony and the peace of the nation. 

During the course of the investigation, attention was drawn to significant financial transactions involving Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana Thero. It was revealed that sizable sums of money had been transferred into the monk's bank accounts from overseas donors. The origins and motives behind these financial contributions are now under scrutiny, as the police seek to ascertain any potential illicit activities or irregularities.
