No IGP for Nine Days: Vacant Position of Police Chief Renders Police Administration Inoperative

According to sources at the Police Headquarters, the absence of a newly appointed Inspector General of Police has resulted in the police administration becoming non-functional, despite nine days having passed since the retirement of former Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne's term.

These sources highlight that the absence of an Inspector General of Police has hindered the advisory, decision-making, and approval processes within the police force.

In related news, it has been reported that President Ranil Wickramasinghe will present three names to the Constitutional Council in the coming days for the appointment of the new Inspector General of Police.

Among the potential candidates, Senior DIG (Administration) Nilantha Jayawardena, Senior DIG (North West) Lalith Patinayake, Senior DIG (Western Province) Deshbandu Thennakoon, Senior DIG (Crime) Priyantha Weerasuriya, and Senior DIG (Sabaragamuwa) P.P.S.M. Mr. Dharmaratne have emerged as frontrunners based on their seniority.

Following the expiration of Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne's term on the 26th, his personal belongings have been removed from the official room of the Inspector General of Police.
