The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended prominent social media activist Piyath Nikeshala in connection with the fire that engulfed President Ranil Wickramasinghe's private residence last year.

Nikeshala was summoned to the CID headquarters to provide a statement but was subsequently arrested due to compelling evidence linking him to the arson incident.

The incident, which occurred in May, last year, caused substantial damage to Wickremesinghe’s private residence. The investigation into the arson attack has been ongoing for several months, with the CID questioning a number of individuals regarding the incident.
