Natasha Edirisuriya, a stand up comedian, has been ordered to remain in custody until July 5 after being arrested for making derogatory statements about Buddhist philosophy and culture. The decision was made during today's hearing at the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court.
On the 27th of last month, Edirisuriya was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department at the Katunayake airport while she was preparing to board a flight to Singapore. Her arrest was prompted by the issuance of a statement that was deemed highly offensive towards Buddhist beliefs and the cultural heritage associated with it.
Meanwhile Bruno Divakara, a prominent personality on YouTube and the Channel owner of SL Vlog, has been released on bail. He was arrested for aiding Edirisuriya to disseminate her content
