Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella announced on Tuesday that the price of drugs registered by the National Drug Regulatory Authority (NDRA) will be lowered from the 15th of this month.
Minister Rambukwella said that the price of medicines should be reduced in relation to the increase in the value of the rupee compared to the dollar. He said that the government is committed to providing affordable healthcare to all Sri Lankans.
The NDRA is the regulatory body responsible for the registration and regulation of drugs in Sri Lanka. The Authority is tasked with ensuring that all drugs marketed in Sri Lanka are safe, effective, and of good quality.
The price of drugs in Sri Lanka has been on the rise in recent years due to a number of factors, including the depreciation of the rupee and the increase in the cost of raw materials. The government's decision to lower the price of drugs is a welcome move that will help to reduce the financial burden on patients.
