Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has taken up residence in an official government bungalow located at Stanmore Crescent.
The bungalow was previously occupied by his brother, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and boasts a prestigious location adjacent to the official residences of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Air Force.
The allocation of the bungalow required government leaders to seek the consent of Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, as it had initially been assigned to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. After obtaining the necessary approvals, the residence was released for former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's use.
The decision to move to the new bungalow was primarily influenced by the perceived noise level at the previous residence on Malalasekera Mawatha, which was situated along the busy Bauddhaloka Mawatha. Citing the noise as a concern, the ex-President opted for the more tranquil surroundings of Stanmore Crescent.
Despite the relocation, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has chosen to retain the same extensive security contingent that was assigned to him during his tenure in office. This security team consists of over a hundred personnel, ensuring his safety and protection.
